Across Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Palestine and Canada, women are confronting a compounding triple nexus.

Climate change, armed conflict and gender inequality do not unfold in isolation. They reinforce one another—deepening displacement, economic insecurity, ecological destruction and violence.

Women are not simply responding to these conditions. As farmers, caregivers, peacebuilders, activists, entrepreneurs, politicians and community leaders, they are protecting land, defending rights, rebuilding communities and shaping a more just future.

The Women Peacebuilders at the Nexus of Climate, Conflict and Gender project—jointly funded by Global Affairs Canada and KAIROS—works alongside women peacebuilders and partner organizations to strengthen this leadership and expand collective action for sustainable peace.

Leadership that transforms systems

As climate emergencies intensify, authoritarianism grows and inequality widens, women peacebuilders are advancing solutions rooted in community knowledge, human rights and ecological justice. Yet the systems they challenge continue to expose them to harassment, violence and exclusion from resources and decision-making.

Through partner-led economic initiatives, training, protection strategies and advocacy platforms, women build economic power, influence public policy and expand their role in shaping peace.

Recognizing, resourcing and connecting their leadership is essential to transforming the systems that drive conflict, climate injustice and gender inequality.
